NEW Weymouth manager Bobby Wilkinson revealed his pride at taking the vacant Terras job, adding: “It’s a club I’ve always wanted to manage”.

Wilkinson and assistant Mike Percival replace departed boss David Oldfield and his number two Tom Donati with immediate effect on a deal until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Wilkinson joins one week after resigning from Southern League Premier side Bracknell.

Amongst an impressive CV stacked with victories, he has managed at Hungerford and Wealdstone and took the latter to an FA Trophy semi-final, claiming promotions at his other two clubs.

And Wilkinson confessed how he had always craved the manager’s hotseat at Weymouth.

He told Echosport: “It’s just such a big football club. You know as you’re growing up as a manager, you always say two or three clubs that you would like to manage.

“It’s a club I’ve always wanted to manage. I come to the town six or seven times a year with my three beautiful kids and my wife.

“I’ve always said to them that I will manage this football club. I can guarantee the fans that they’ve got a manager that’s not just here to manage.

“I’m here to win games of football and try my best. I can’t promise you it will succeed but if I don’t, it will be the first.

“I’ve gone in where I’ve gone and I’ve turned it round straight away. I’ve won games.

“It is a big football club that I’m honoured to manage. I know people are here saying congratulations.

“But I’ve flipped it, I’m proud to be here. I’m a very proud man to manage this club. I’m going to make sure we take this club right to the top.”
