PORTLAND United and Bridport have been given intriguing ties in the FA Vase first round.

Portland's reward for beating Hythe & Dibden 3-1 in Saturday's second qualifying round is a trip to Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier leaders Cribbs.

Cribbs are unbeaten in the league this season, winning seven of their eight games.

That compares with Portland's tenth place in the Wessex League Premier Division, the Blues having won their past three games in all competitions.

It is the first time Portland have reached the FA Vase main draw for three years, with their previous appearance ending in a 2-0 loss at Exmouth.

Bridport, meanwhile, host another Hellenic League Premier side in Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Town are sixth in their division, having won four games in eight this season.

Bridport beat Petersfield 2-0 in their first victory for 392 days but lie bottom of the South West Peninsula League Premier East.

Royal Wootton Bassett are a Step 5 side, whereas Bridport dropped to Step 6 this season following their relegation in 2021/22.

Bridport have reached the first round proper for the first time since the 2018/19 campaign, when they suffered a 6-0 home defeat to Falmouth.

Ties will be played on Saturday, October 22 with the winners claiming an additional £825 and the losers £250.
