BY BEATING Welling United 3-0 yesterday, Weymouth recorded their best home result since a 4-0 win over Wealdstone in March 2021.

Brad Ash silenced his critics with two well-taken goals and Tom Bearwish added a third wearing the captain’s armband.

There were plenty of stand-out performances, but how did each Weymouth player fare in the final reckoning?

Echosport takes a look at the Terras’ individual game ratings.

  1. Zaki Oualah – goalkeeper – 7.5/10

AN ASSURED clean sheet on debut for new Weymouth goalkeeper Zaki Oualah.

The former Wimbledon shot-stopper pulled off a stunning fingertip save to deny Stefan Payne in the first half.

He toyed with two Welling attackers by faking clearances but loses half a point for colliding with Luke Nippard early in the second half, leading to a nasty leg injury for the defender.

  1. Teddy Howe – right-back – 7/10

QUIETLY but effectively going about his work with another solid display.

Rarely troubled at right-back and notably choosing, and able, on several occasions to thread a narrow pass down the line when faced with a clearance under pressure.

Neatly began moves on the right flank for the Terras and got forward where possible.

  1. Harry Kyprianou – left-back – 7/10

WARMING up to life in a Weymouth shirt with one of his best performances yet.

Showed his eye for goal with a first-half shot and looked a threat going forward.

Won’t mind the yellow card issued for time-wasting with ten minutes to go, one of the few Weymouth players to grasp the dark arts this season.

  1. Nathan Carlyle – centre-back – 6.5/10

SOLID at the back for 94 minutes until he conceded a penalty for handball.

Otherwise marshalled Weymouth’s defence well and signs of a decent partnership being formed with Dan Matsuzaka.

  1. Dan Matsuzaka – centre-back – 7.5/10

ARGUABLY Weymouth’s stand-out defender in the victory.

Made countless clearances and stood up to Welling’s overly physical approach, going toe-to-toe with Ade Azeez for much of the game and coming out on top.

Even took a reckless challenge and bought time while receiving treatment.

  1. Luke Nippard – central midfield – 8/10

LOOKS to have made midfield his home since boss Bobby Wilkinson deployed him there.

Normally a right-back this season, he gave another reminder of his versatility with a lung-bursting display adding stability to Weymouth’s back four and then venturing forward to link up attacks.

Only lasted 51 minutes and very unlucky to sustain what appeared a nasty leg injury when Oualah needlessly clattered into him with no Welling player nearby.

  1. Tom Bearwish – central midfield – 7.5/10

TOOK his goal really well, drilling a powerful low effort through goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle’s outstretched hand.

Third goal of the season settled the tie in Weymouth’s favour and did not shy away from captain’s responsibilities given injuries to Xander McBurnie and Cam Murray.

Was a key cog in an often intricate attacking display for Weymouth and surely more goals will come if he continues to play like this.

  1. Keelan O’Connell – central midfield – 8/10

CAN stake a claim to being Weymouth’s best piece of summer business.

Played a big part in Weymouth’s two first-half goals, catching Welling unaware from a corner and then his deflected shot leading to a penalty.

Just needs to add goals to his game and Weymouth have a massive player on their hands.

  1. Tom Blair – winger – 7.5/10

BOBBED in and out of the game but showed how crucial he is to Weymouth’s attack by combining with his teammates in several eye-catching passing moves.

Hit one gorgeous pass over the top for Ash in the first half and his deflected cross led directly to Bearwish’s goal. He might even claim the assist.

  1. Ahkeem Rose – forward – 6.5/10

PERHAPS didn’t get a chance to affect the game as much as he would’ve liked as Weymouth continue to manage his minutes.

One glimpse of goal early in the first half when he headed wide and played a part in one of Ash’s goals, cushioning a shot for the forward to spin and score.

Taken off at half-time to protect him from injury.

  1. Brad Ash – forward – 8.5/10

AS MENTIONED above, silenced his critics with a brace.

Took his first goal well with a nimble spin and shot before expertly tucking away his penalty.

Only denied a hat-trick in injury-time when Tyler Forbes’ header just crept out of his reach on the stretch.

Is now Weymouth’s top scorer this season with five goals.

  1. Dan Gifford – striker – 6/10

FAIRLY quiet when he came on at half-time for Rose but we now know he was carrying an injury.

Tested McKenzie-Lyle ten minutes from time with a good effort but had to be replaced when his injury got the better of him.

  1. Tyler Forbes – winger – 7.5/10

THREATENED Welling from the off with his pace and directness.

Grabbed his chance after the unfortunate injury to Nippard and did not look out of place.

Just one training session so far but looks to have gelled with his teammates already. A fine debut.

  1. Matty Burrows – winger – 5/10

ONLY came on with seven minutes of stoppage-time to play, hence the low score, but showed some neat touches and a willingness to manage the game when he received possession in the final third.

Deserves more of a chance with his stellar scoring form for the under-23s.
