DORCHESTER Town first-team coach Brian Churchill admitted the Magpies “got out of jail” after their “worst team performance” this season yielded a chaotic 3-2 win over Harrow Borough.

Harrow led 2-1 after 81 minutes as Kai Omoko Brosnan and Isiah Noel-Williams goals swamped Olaf Koszela’s leveller.

However, an extraordinary 60 seconds saw Alfie Stanley convert a penalty before Shaq Gwengwe raced through one-on-one to score the winner, sending the Avenue Stadium into pandemonium.

Dorchester are now seventh in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South with five wins and a draw from ten games.

But Churchill felt luck, which had previously deserted the Magpies on a run of four losses, finally turned in their favour.

He told Dorchester’s media team: “It was a difficult afternoon for us and must’ve been really difficult for the fans to watch that.

“In the past we’ve said how well we’ve played and lost. I think (Saturday) was the complete turnaround.

“That’s probably our worst team performance and yet we’ve got a result, which is all that matters. We needed those three points badly.”

In a frantic final ten minutes, Dorchester reaped the rewards of boss Glenn Howes’ tactical switch to flood men forward.

Churchill said: “Glenn made a double sub five minutes into the second half and we kept with the same shape, but with 15 minutes to go we really had to do something because the game was just petering out.

“Glenn changed shape and put us right on the front foot. When we’re on the front foot it is important that we score. We did that in a flurry.

“It was really good for Alfie, who was composed in his penalty finish albeit after a long wait and shenanigans.

“Shaq does what Shaq does, one-on-one with the keeper and he buried it.”

Churchill felt the victory was a polar opposite to Tuesday’s 2-1 loss over Tiverton.

“Tuesday we thought we bossed that game and came away with nothing,” he said.

“(Saturday) we’ve got out of jail. We’ve been on the back foot, didn’t look like we’ve played together before and yet we’ve got three points and won 3-2 at home.

“So the result was the most important thing. If we topped that with a good performance, great, but I’m sure everyone’s going home happy.”

Dorchester are next in FA Trophy action at Plymouth Parkway on Saturday (3pm).
