WEYMOUTH Cricket Club put the 2022 season to bed with their annual presentation evening at Weymouth Football Club.

Celebrating two trophies and a promotion in a hugely successful campaign, the Seasiders dished out eight awards on the night.

Team success went to the club’s T20 team, who beat Corfe Mullen by two runs in a thrilling T20 Trophy final at Hamworthy.

Weymouth Seconds topped that triumph by securing the County Division Six crown and promotion to County Division Five.

Individual accolades were served to seven players, with Lloyd Beals scooping two.

Beals enjoyed a breakthrough season with the bat, smashing seven fifties on his way to amassing 682 runs after tackling the opener’s role from the halfway point of the campaign.

Beals was named first XI players’ player of the year for his efforts, while the all-rounder also claimed best bowling performance for his remarkable 5-6 at Sturminster & Hinton.

Second XI players’ player went to evergreen Andy Jarvis for his 217 runs and 11 wickets throughout the year, leading his side to the silverware.

Best batting performance fell Neil Walton’s way for the second season running courtesy of his 125 from 107 balls against Shaftesbury.

Mark Rogers claimed fastest fifty after a blistering half-century at Cattistock & Symene Thirds came off 21 balls. He went on to make 66 from 27 deliveries, with six fours and five maximums.

Cory Baker pouched the young player of the year award – despite being involved in a motorbike accident in June.

Baker scored a maiden half-century in amongst 135 runs, also taking seven wickets.

Pete Sapsworth also claimed the man-of-the-match award for his performance in the inaugural Weymouth CC legends v current crop friendly.

Finally, the clubman of the year trophy deservedly went to Andy Anderson for his role in numerous administrative and ground reparation projects.
