DORCHESTER Town have learned significantly more about their squad after the midweek win over Bridport, first-team coach Brian Churchill says.

On Tuesday, the Magpies needed extra-time to beat the Bees 4-2 in the Dorset Senior Cup following a display that had bordered on complacent during the second half as the hosts squandered a 2-0 lead.

Glenn Howes’ men now entertain high-flying Met Police tomorrow (3pm), the two sides separated by two points with the Blues in fifth and the Magpies in eighth.

Speaking ahead of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South clash, Churchill felt some players on Tuesday were unable to impress enough to feature against the Met.

He told Echosport: “It’s answered a few of our questions that we’ve had. It was a big chance for a number of players to stake a claim as to why they’re not in the starting XI.

“A couple have done themselves favours but others haven’t grasped that opportunity.

“Opportunities don’t come around very often so it’s up to them to grab it when they get it and keep quiet when they don’t get picked.”

On facing Met, who have beaten the Magpies on all five occasions since switching to this division of Step 3 in 2018, Churchill added: “Last season I rated them as probably our toughest game when we played them away.

“They’re a really good, well-drilled side. Every team can beat anyone, it’s so tight.

“If we can get another three points the league looks really healthy for us after our past three games produced seven points.”

He continued: “The good news is we’ve made the Avenue a really difficult place to come.

“It’s one we should have everyone back for to keep our mini-run going.”

Dorchester are unbeaten in four games in all competitions and welcome back Ryan Hall, Tiago Sa, Callum Buckley, Jordan Ngalo, Charlie Gunson, Matty Neale and Alfie Stanley.

Shaq Gwengwe (ankle) is the only injury doubt and Kieran Douglas is suspended.
