“OVER the moon” Dorchester Town assistant-manager James Wood praised the Magpies’ complete team performance in the impressive 1-0 win over Metropolitan Police on Saturday.

Olaf Koszela’s seventh goal of the season, a spectacular curler from the left edge of the box, handed Dorchester their third-straight Pitching In Southern League Premier South win in succession.

Three points and a sixth clean sheet of the season consequently boosted Dorchester up three positions to fifth this weekend.

And Wood is delighted by how cohesive the Magpies have become.

He told Dorchester’s media team: “Absolutely over the moon. I thought from one to 11, and with the subs coming on as well, that’s as complete a team performance as I’ve seen for a long time.

“I thought all of them were excellent against a very good Met Police side. They’ve been going well, they’re on a good run of form and they’re always there or thereabouts.

“So, it was a really good yardstick for us to see how far we’re progressing. Absolutely delighted with the three points and the clean sheet.”

Picking up on the clean sheet, Wood said: “That speaks volumes of what we’re doing here at the moment.

“I thought from Ryan (Hall) in goal, through the back four they were excellent.

“I’m not saying for one minute that Met Police ran out of ideas but what we did do was limited chances for them.

“Of course, they’re going to put balls in the box that we’re going to have to defend. Again, this is where these boys have really stepped up to the mark.

“Young players, Jordi (Foot), Buckers (Callum Buckley), Harvey (Bertrand) they were excellent. They defended anything that went into the box.

“They looked organised, their shape was good, the midfield in front of them and then the threat we’ve got up front now, I’m really pleased, because we had to dig in.”

And Wood saved praise for match-winner Koszela, who extended his lead at the top of the Magpies’ goalscoring charts.

“The goal speaks for itself,” Wood said. “Olaf was man of the match – fully deserved.

“He was a constant threat throughout the game. Even first half, early on in the game we caught them four, maybe five, times on the counter.

“Realistically we could’ve had a couple more in that half. Then Olaf’s got his goal, cut in, great finish into the top corner.

“Fully deserved from that young man, because he’s played 120 minutes Tuesday night, ran himself into the ground as he always does.

“He was a constant thorn in their side, he really was.”

Dorchester are next in action at 20th-placed Hendon on Saturday.
