DORCHESTER Town first-team coach Brian Churchill insists there is “room for improvement” in the Magpies’ away form going into a trip to Hendon tomorrow (3pm).

Glenn Howes’ men tackle the Greens on a familiar 3G surface having taken only eight points on their travels this season – four of those coming in their past two trips to Merthyr and Gosport.

It means 18 of Dorchester’s 26 points – a tally good enough for fifth in the table – have come at the Avenue Stadium.

And Churchill is out to make it 29 points by beating a Hendon side currently bottom of the home form table.

He told Echosport: “We need to be cautious, they’ve had a little upswing in results. Probably their league position defies where they are as a team.

“We’re there going to try and improve on our away form. I looked at it and 18 of our points have come from home.

“There’s certainly room for improvement away from home and Hendon on a 3G is a good opportunity to get three points.”

Dorchester have taken ten points from a possible 12 in their past four games, but Churchill remains on guard.

He added: “We’re on a good run of form. You’ve seen the results in this league – anyone can beat anyone.

“Our little run of form can quite easily turn into three defeats on the trot. Then, you’re ripping up the coaching manual and thinking: ‘Where is it all going wrong?’

“This league is so unforgiving, it’s so hard to win a game of football. That’s starting to filter through to the players.

“What Glenn, myself and Woodsy (James Wood) are doing is certainly paying off, this run of form’s very welcome.”

Kieran Douglas returns from suspension but Shaq Gwengwe (ankle) is too far away from full fitness.

Elsewhere, Churchill’s under-23 side took a fine 5-2 victory over rivals Poole Town in league action on Wednesday night.

Kriss Radivojsa scored either side of a Remus Nixon goal before the Dolphins’ Daniel Reeks pulled a goal back from the spot.

Jamie Johnston added a fourth and Elliott Hartnell-Baker made it 5-1 before Weymouth winger Tyler Forbes netted a late consolation for Poole.

Churchill said: “We were excellent. Their age defies the way they’re playing, it was a really good performance.

“It was summed up when their manager said we were better in both boxes. We defended really well and we took our chances.”
