PROMISING centre-back Brendan Willson has “a lot to learn” at Weymouth although boss Bobby Wilkinson believes he has a "bright future" in the game.

Willson, 19, has made a significant impact in his three games on loan from Eastleigh in November, scoring two headers.

His first came on debut in the 3-2 defeat at St Albans, before he netted the equaliser in the 2-1 victory at Welling on Saturday.

The teenager is highly regarded at Eastleigh, where he has four National League appearances, and is at Weymouth on a one-month loan that expires after the Cheshunt game on Saturday.

Speaking after the defender played a major hand in Weymouth’s second consecutive league win, Wilkinson told Echosport: “He’s got a bright future.

“He’s got a lot to learn, but we’re giving him his minutes and he’s listening, learning.

“We’re trying to coach him how we want him to defend. He deserves a lot of credit.”

Weymouth are expected to negotiate an extension on Willson’s stay, given their injury troubles in defence.

Teddy Howe (knee) and Harry Kyprianou (hamstring) are out until the New Year, while Dan Matsuzaka and Nathan Carlyle have both suffered a nasty sickness bug.

Tom Bearwish and Scott Rees, deployed most often in midfield, have had to fill in at full-back in recent weeks.

Victory against Cheshunt in their bottom-of-the-table clash on Saturday would lift the Terras from the bottom spot of the table for the first time since August 13.
