OAKMEADIANS II 26

DORCHESTER II 19

DORCHESTER Seconds travelled to Oakmeadians Seconds but came unstuck with a 26-19 defeat in their Counties Three Tribute Dorset & Wilts South fixture.

Captain Jamie Jackson remarked it was a hard-fought game in difficult weather conditions.

The county town side kicked off with the wind at their backs and the game immediately took on a high tempo.

Dorchester created a lot of early pressure but failed to convert that to points.

Although dominant at the set-piece, with the forwards carrying strongly, the visitors went in at half-time three scores down.

Regrouping for the second half after some stern words from Jackson to his team, Tom Louch scored early followed by Toby Ingram going over in the corner.

Oaks picked up another try after some confusion in Dorchester’s 22, but the visitors rallied and piled on the pressure resulting in Ollie Morris scoring.

Despite this, Jackson’s side could not add to their tally and came away with a loss.

Away from the result, there were strong performances across the park for Dorchester, again showcasing the young talent coming through to senior rugby.

This week’s Clayson Scaffolding player of the match was awarded to Jimmy Louch for his great work in the forwards.

Following the late call off of Dorchester’s Counties One Tribute Southern South fixture, with Frome Seconds unable to raise a team, Dorchester were awarded a home walkover and five points.

This now leaves the side in third place in the table with three home fixtures in the run-up to the Christmas break.

Back at Surcouf Park, the club held its first vice-presidents lunch of the season.

Although there was no game to watch, club president Bob Andrews said: “We all had a fantastic afternoon despite Frome being unable to field a side.

“With so many familiar faces it was great to catch up and meet friends old and new along with a number of former players catching up with old teammates.

“The club is lucky to have so many committed members and supporters keeping our community club running.”

With three former club presidents attending the meal, there was the opportunity to get them together for a commemorative photograph for the club’s archive.

Harry Brewer was in the role 1997-2007, Harry Dowell who was unwell and unable to attend followed from 2007-2010, Frank Dike took the role from 2010-2015 and Bob Andrews, the current president, took over in 2015.
