WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson spoke of the intense belief in his squad after the Terras swept Worthing aside 3-1 in the Vanarama National League South.

Wilkinson’s men hurdled an early obstacle when Joel Colbran’s volley gave Worthing a fifth-minute lead.

Brad Ash got the Terras back level with a well-taken penalty after Luca Cocoracchio was adjudged to have handled in the area.

Weymouth hit the post twice in the second half either side of Dan Matsuzaka’s close-range finish, and the Terras made sure of a second win in four days when Ahkeem Rose headed home seven minutes from time.

The victory propelled Weymouth to the top of the form table with 13 points from a possible 15, while boosting them two places to 21st – their highest placing this season.

Speaking to Echosport, Wilkinson admitted he is “in the zone” for more success.

He said: “It really is special when someone showed me (the form table). They were like: ‘Why aren’t you getting excited?’

“To me, it’s just that I’m nowhere near where I want to be. I really do mean it when I say I want my boys to work harder.

“You’re top of the form guide because you’re working harder than any team at the moment. Can we stay top of the form guide?

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s really hard to explain how I feel. I’m so proud when I see it, but it really means nothing.

“Dulwich next Tuesday is all that matters. Until we get where we need to get, I just can’t stop.

“You’ve got to keep working hard and everyone keep believing. I’m so in the zone, it’s unreal.

“My players, I’m so proud to be their manager right now and not because we’re winning. I’m proud of the way they’re listening, learning and believing.

“I’m watching players play with a smile on their face. Even when we went 1-0 down, I turned to my bench and went: ‘We’ll still win’.

“My players are believing in what we’re trying to achieve but we have a very long way to go.”

Weymouth were the dominant force after conceding and this result backs up their 5-0 win over Tonbridge on Saturday in style.

When put to him that Weymouth had produced two dominant displays in a row, Wilkinson said: “I couldn’t agree more.

“We’ve just dominated after the first five minutes. We’re not just playing well now, we’re hurting teams.

“We’re working harder, scoring more goals. We are dominating, which is very difficult to press the way we are, when you’re going back-to-back that quick.”

Wilkinson spared a mention for his defence, who conceded for the first time in 261 minutes – equivalent to almost three games.

“Someone said to me that the strikers are on form, the defenders are on form – it’s everyone at the football club,” he said.

“This win is for absolutely everyone. I’m talking volunteers, people that work at the club, my management team, my players.

“We came to another difficult place on a Tuesday and ended up getting three points. Everyone deserves all the credit in the world.”
