DORSET all-rounder Tom Prest has been called up to the England Lions’ white-ball squad for their forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The Lions are scheduled to play two four-day Tests against Sri Lanka A in Galle from January 31 followed by three ODIs in Colombo from February 15.

Prest, 19, captained the England Under-19 side to the World Cup final last season where they were beaten by India.

His greatest success came for parent county Hampshire, though, where he flourished after opting not to play in The Hundred, where he was listed for a potential £30,000 contract at worst.

Prest vindicated his decision by hammering a sublime 181 from 138 balls against Kent, adding three other half-centuries to his name in Hampshire’s Royal London Cup campaign.

Wimborne-born Prest, who studied at Canford School, went on to enjoy a fine season for Dorset’s T20 side, scoring 200 runs at an average of 50 with a top score of 69.

Prest is a handy off-spinner and claimed a combined 8-139 in 17.3 overs for Dorset last season.

Prest also turned out for Bashley in the Southern League in 2022 and previously played for Dorset Premier League side Broadstone in 2017 and 2018.
