DORCHESTER Town boss Glenn Howes wants the Magpies’ quest for trophies to become “habitual” ahead of visiting arch-rivals Weymouth tonight (7.45pm).

In this evening’s semi-final, Dorchester face Weymouth in the Dorset Senior Cup for the first time since losing the 2020 final 4-2 following two late Terras goals.

The Magpies have twice fought off relegation since then but under Howes have turned over a new leaf and currently sit fifth in the Southern League Premier South.

Howes’ men have taken back-to-back wins in 2023 over Yate and Hartley Wintney and the former Dorchester midfielder spoke of high confidence in the Magpies’ camp.

He told Echosport: “We’re confident against anybody we play at this moment in time.

“You have to produce and (tonight) gives us an opportunity to rotate and change the team.

“I’m sure Weymouth and Bobby will make changes. It might be a little disconnected and disjointed at times but it certainly bodes for an entertaining game.

“We want the players to play in big games. We want it to become habitual in terms of trying to win silverware.

“It’s something that’s really strong with myself, James (Wood), Churchy (Brian Churchill) and (Steve) Dodge, that we want to bring a nice day out for the supporters in terms of playing in the final.

“It is really important but equally there are players that deserve minutes and they’re going to be given an opportunity that’s for sure.

“With the under-23s around, it would be unfair not to give them the opportunity too. It’s really needed.

“We’ve picked up some knocks and niggles so it would be ludicrous for us to name the same 11 (from Hartley).”

Shaq Gwengwe will not be rushed back unless fully fit after illness kept him out of the 4-2 win at Hartley Wintney.

Alex Moyse (ankle) could face a longer spell out, however.

“We didn’t realise the severity of Alex’s injury he picked up against Yate,” Howes revealed.

“Alex is such a tenacious player, he weathered the pain and carried on. However, he came to train, strapped up, and it wasn’t ready.

“He’s gone back to Torquay, had it assessed, had a scan and it’s been a sprain. He won’t be ready and we think it might be two to four weeks.”

New signing Ferdinand Okoh (knee) is doubtful and Jordan Ngalo will be used sparingly as he continues his return from a hamstring injury.
