WEYMOUTH loanee right-back Luke Jenkins has returned to parent club AFC Wimbledon with immediate effect following the end of his one-month loan.

Jenkins, 20, played five times for Weymouth with his final appearance coming in the 2-1 win over Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday.

Weymouth’s injury troubles at right-back have been well documented, with Teddy Howe a long-term absentee with a knee ligament problem.

And the Terras expressed their thanks to the Dons – who knocked them out of the FA Cup first round in November – for their assistance with Jenkins’ stay.

Speaking to Echosport, Weymouth boss Bobby Wilkinson said: “He’s been a pleasure to work with and he’s got a bright future, I wish him all the best.

“Luke loved his time with us but it was a three-and-a-half hour travel. The travelling was too much and it was only for a month.

“I can’t thank AFC Wimbledon enough for helping us. He’s done very well for the club.”

Asked if he would look to plug the gap at right-back, Wilkinson added: “Yes, I’m certainly trying.

“We’re working on a few little things. I’m very fortunate, I’ve ended up signing two good players at full-back.

“Full-backs are the most important thing to a team. If you’ve got good full-backs, because you normally play against good wingers, it gives you an opportunity to win games.

“Luke’s come in and done extremely well. Now his loan deal’s up I wish him all the best.

“You never know, we might meet up again.”

Should Weymouth fail to find another right-back in time, versatile midfielders Luke Nippard or Tom Bearwish could slot in for tomorrow’s home clash with Dulwich Hamlet (3pm).
