DORCHESTER TOWN 0

DORCHESTER Town delivered an unusually timid display as Tiverton Town ran out deserved 3-0 winners at Ladysmead in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South.

In a tale of three penalties, Louis Morison converted two spot-kicks in the first half to put the Yellows 2-0 up.

Dorchester's Alfie Stanley then saw a second-half penalty saved by Lewis Williams and Tiverton added a third goal seconds later through Jamie Richards, whose header crept over the line.

Not even two yellows for Josh Jones could disrupt Tivvy, whose clean sheet went unblemished when Shaq Gwengwe hit the bar late on.

The result drops Dorchester one place to seventh after Bracknell’s 3-2 win at Hanwell, while Tiverton climb to 12th.

Looking to make amends after a 4-3 loss to Swindon Supermarine last time out, Dorchester boss Glenn Howes made three changes to his starting XI.

Defenders Jordi Foot and Louie Slough returned to the line-up, while Charlie Gunson was fully fit again following a tight hamstring.

The trio replaced striker Harvey Bradbury, who began a four-game ban for two red cards this season, along with benched full-backs Harvey-Joe Bertrand and Tiago Sa.

Howes could not have foreseen a major drop-off in performance, however, as Tiverton outplayed the Magpies after a minute’s silence for late Tivvy stalwart Eric ‘Chico’ Manley.

Early warning sirens should have sounded when ex-Magpie Tom Purrington headed at keeper Ryan Hall and Niall Thompson missed two opportunities in a matter of seconds.

Tivvy were dominant and saw Dylan Jones weave his way into the area before warming Hall’s gloves.

Dorchester did reply with Stanley’s wayward 20-yarder but his effort was a mere blip in Tiverton’s assertiveness as the Yellows won their first penalty.

Purrington was the man to earn it, driving into the box and drawing a foul from Kieran Douglas, allowing Morison to slot home from the spot into the bottom-right corner.

Purrington headed a second chance at Hall but Dorchester gave his opposite number Williams work to do when Gunson hit the target from a free-kick.

Tiverton were denied a second when Hall beat away Thompson’s fierce effort only as far as Purrington, who netted only to be flagged for offside.

The Yellows’ disappointment lasted only a handful of seconds, though, as away skipper Callum Buckley fouled Morison in the box.

Dorchester had few complaints and Morison duly bagged his brace before half-time.

Howes reacted by hooking Keith Emmerson and Douglas for Alex Moyse and Bertrand at the break.

And his changes gave Dorchester a lifeline when Gwengwe was brought down by a clumsy challenge from Williams in the box.

Stanley took responsibility from the spot but Williams kept out his effort and repelled the rebound to deprive the Magpies of a route back into the game.

In a nightmarish minute, Tiverton added a third when Richards’ header from a corner was adjudged to have crossed the line despite Dorchester protests.

With only 29 minutes to rescue an improbable draw, Dorchester nearly went 4-0 down when Matt Britton blazed over and Josh Jones headed wide.

Jones picked up a second yellow with 14 minutes remaining and Dorchester did finally enjoy a spell of dominance as sub Ferdinand Okoh fired a free-kick at Williams.

Tiverton still possessed an attacking threat as Kane Simpson, linked with Weymouth this summer, tested Hall and Thompson blasted over.

Dorchester came back with Jordi Foot’s rising effort and, in six added minutes of added time, Gwengwe’s excellent run ended with the woodwork denying him a consolation.

It simply was not to be for the Magpies, who must quickly regroup on Tuesday night at bottom side North Leigh (7.45pm).
