DORCHESTER Town manager Glenn Howes admitted facing Beaconsfield Town was always going to be a “tall order” for the Magpies.

Howes watched on as Dorchester fell to a 2-0 defeat, their eighth in ten league games, against the Rams at the Avenue Stadium.

Dorchester remain 12th in their quest to secure their best league placing since finishing eighth in the 2012/13 National League South season.

But Howes listed Dorchester’s final third play as his biggest grumble on the night.

He told Dorchester’s media team: “It was a challenge from the off. They’re a very good side, there’s no doubt.

“They’re full of attacking threat and a new management team (Neil Baker and Jon Underwood) who are putting their stamp on that team.

“We knew it was going to be a tall order, particularly in the form that we’re in as a team.

“Overall, I didn’t think we were too far away. There’s a little bit of work to do in the final third.

“We got caught, there was a little bit of our own doing for the first goal, but we want the boys to be brave, we want the boys to play.

“The second goal, we got done on the counter. We’re throwing bodies forward and I’d rather do that, I’d rather try and change the game than sit there and lose 1-0.

“It was a difficult evening, that’s for sure.”

Expanding his thoughts on Dorchester’s final-third play, Howes added: “Our build-up play was good, I felt we handled the ball.

“I felt when we got into areas our movements and combinations (weren’t) quite there to give us that big opening that we required.

“We created a couple of chances through crosses, flashed a couple of shots across goal.

“But in terms of making it easier for us, we’ve got to force the ball into further areas, even to byline areas and have some bodies on cutbacks and force the issue with a bit more intricacy in our play.”
