WEYMOUTH boss Bobby Wilkinson remains committed to winning the Dorset Senior Cup despite his intention to field a weakened side against holders Poole Town.

Wilkinson’s men travel to the BlackGold Stadium tonight (7.45pm) looking to take back a trophy they last won in 2020, courtesy of a 4-2 win over Dorchester Town.

However, with the Terras currently five points off safety and only seven Vanarama National League South games remaining, a mixed side is expected.

Weymouth will use some of their under-23s, players short on game time and players returning from injury against Tommy Killick’s Dolphins.

Speaking to Echosport, Wilkinson said: “Quite a few players won’t be travelling because we can’t afford to pick up any injuries while we have a slim chance of staying in the league.

“I’m looking forward to working with some 23s, they’ve been working extremely hard this year. It will be nice to reward them because they’re for the future.

“They’ll be playing with first-teamers and we are taking the cup competition seriously, to the best of our ability to go and win it.”

First-teamers Ben Thomson, Matt Buse, Zaki Oualah and Keelan O’Connell are all expected to feature, with two more seniors expected.

Scott Rees (back) is rated as 50-50 but under-23 striker Elliot Rossiter and left-back Liam O’Shaughnessy will be among those drafted into the squad.

The original final was postponed at Weymouth’s request due to adverse travelling conditions caused by snow.

Weymouth reached the final after disposing of rivals Dorchester Town 2-0 in the semi-finals.
