DORCHESTER Town midfielder Jordan Ngalo described his side’s 2-1 win over Harrow Borough as a “relief”.

The Magpies had previously been winless in seven games and were on a demoralising run of ten defeats in 12 matches.

However, stand-in captain Shaq Gwengwe’s double from the penalty spot put Dorchester in the driving seat and the Magpies held on despite Johnny Allotey’s strike 22 minutes from time.

Victory moved Dorchester into 12th and virtually guarantees their Pitching In Southern League Premier South status next season.

If North Leigh, in 19th, do not beat Plymouth Parkway on Saturday then Dorchester will be safe.

Speaking to Echosport, Ngalo said: “The boys have been working really hard. Obviously, it’s been a tough period for us in terms of results.

“It was about time that we turned it around and it’s what the boys deserved. We had to stay together and support each other, it’s a well-deserved three points.

“A win can change the mood in the whole camp. It would be stressful for everyone, whether it be the players or the management. It’s not nice to lose games.

“It’s a good relief when you get the three points and give the fans something to cheer about. It’s a nice feeling around the camp, especially with this win.”

Ngalo, an unused substitute in the fixture, also spoke of the character in the squad to close out the much-needed victory after Harrow scored.

He added: “You trust the people that surround you. Considering how the results have been going for us, you still get the nerves.

“The boys fought well to grind it out for the last 20 and to get the three points. Away days are always tough, regardless of where you go.

“For the boys to come out with all three points, it’s all just praise to them.”

On Gwengwe, Ngalo highlighted the striker’s work ethic after being given the responsibility of not only leading Dorchester’s attack but taking the captain’s armband with Callum Buckley on the bench.

He said: “He’s a good lad, he works hard and tries to learn as much as he can. His hard work is paying off with the goals he’s getting.

“He’s only a young lad growing into the game. I’m sure he has a pretty big future ahead of him, he just needs to knuckle down and keep going.”

Dorchester travel to Salisbury on Saturday (3pm).
