TOMORROW Dorchester travel to Somerset side Wiveliscombe as their Papa John’s Counties One South Plate campaign begins (3pm).

The competition is a straight knockout clash, coming after the county town outfit finished fifth in their league campaign, with their opponents finishing sixth in their Western table of the same level.

With very similar league records this season, this on paper should be a close-fought game to progress to the second round.

Captain Steve Tucker will lead the strongest squad available to him with an extensive injury list and the onset of the Easter holiday period adding to the bad timing of the competition.

He will be able to call on the experience of both Dave Cottell and Tom Gower alongside regulars, Joe Underhill and Brad Mullins in the forwards with Alex Peel, Cohen Emery, Brook Legg, Deklyn Bane and Kieran Fry in the backs.

Both Jamie Morgan and Jack Hayward are again available for the game.

Weymouth & Portland, who were last weekend promoted to Dorchester’s league for the 2023/24 season, tomorrow visit Warminster in the Counties Two Championship section of the cup.

Dorchester A are also in cup action at Surcouf Park against Bournemouth Thirds tomorrow (3pm).

Jamie Jackson will lead out his side, also in the Papa John’s Plate, in what will be a tough game given the opponents’ higher league level.

Jackson will also have a good mixture of experience and youth in his squad with the likes of Tim Stephens, Mark Egan and Allan Bickley adding the experience, alongside some of the club’s homegrown talent in Archie O’Connell, Sammy Lambourn, Will Mullins and Sam Downey.
