POOLE TOWN 6

DORCHESTER Town were hammered 6-1 by Poole Town in a chastening Pitching In Southern League Premier South derby at the Avenue Stadium.

In front of a 1,134-strong crowd, their biggest of the season, Dorchester took the lead through Alex Moyse.

However, Cam Murray equalised to open the floodgates as Matty Neale headed an own goal and Tony Lee netted a third for the Dolphins before half-time.

Dorchester stemmed the tide until Lee’s second on 74 minutes and the ex-Magpies striker went on to complete his hat-trick with a penalty before adding a fourth late on.

It was Dorchester’s heaviest defeat since Salisbury inflicted the same scoreline on them back in October 2020.

Looking to halt a run of five losses against Poole, Dorchester boss Glenn Howes made five changes to the side that started the 2-0 loss at Chesham.

Harvey-Joe Bertrand, Alex Moyse, Kieran Douglas, Charlie Gunson and Matt Neale all came in at the expense of Alfie Stanley, Jake Graziano, Ferdinand Okoh, Keith Emmerson and Jordi Foot.

Graziano and Okoh missed out completely while Stanley, Emmerson and Foot dropped to the bench.

Dorchester were hunting their first win over Poole since January 2019 and made the ideal start when Moyse fired past keeper Will Butler from 20 yards in the 13th minute.

Gunson was denied by Butler and Lewis Waterfield headed a corner at the stopper as Dorchester sniffed a second goal.

However, after heavy pressure of their own, the Dolphins broke Dorchester’s resistance as ex-Magpie Murray shot home.

Dorchester were annoyed as Poole scored while Waterfield was down injured and the midfielder went off shortly before Poole’s second.

The Magpies failed to deal with a corner as Neale inadvertently headed past keeper Ryan Hall for an own goal.

And Poole’s third also came from a corner on 45 minutes, Lee showing his acrobatic skills to hook past Hall after more generous defending.

Shaq Gwengwe charged down a Butler clearance in the second half but Poole wrapped up the win with a third goal from a corner, Lee heading beyond Hall from Corby Moore’s delivery.

Playing in the penultimate game of his career, Emmerson then conceded a penalty and Lee was his clinical self to convert from the spot for his hat-trick.

And Lee put the cherry on a memorable afternoon for Tommy Killick’s men when he reacted quickest to Hall’s parry to score Poole’s sixth goal.

Dorchester, who drop to 14th, host Hendon in their final home match of the season on Saturday (3pm).
