BOBBY Wilkinson insists the “dream is still alive” after Weymouth beat Taunton Town 3-1 away to boost their chances of survival.

With three games to go, Weymouth were seven points off safety in the Vanarama National League South.

Results at Dulwich and Cheshunt, the latter now relegated, went their way.

But Weymouth now go into a final-day decider at Dover knowing victory could keep them up at the expense of their hosts.

However, they must sweat on Concord’s game with Havant on Thursday, as a Concord win would take Weymouth’s fate out of their hands.

First, they needed to beat Taunton and the Terras were superb in the opening 20 minutes, carving out chances at will.

They deservedly led through Ahkeem Rose and Brad Ash goals, but Dylan Morgan’s dipping volley ensured a tense second period.

Any nerves were put to bed when Tom Bearwish netted a late third goal to send the vocal travelling Weymouth support wild.

Speaking to Echosport, Wilkinson said: “Nothing’s changed from Saturday, the dream is still alive.

“Everyone has written us off and I thank every single one of them for that.

“If you said when I came in that we would take it to the final game of the season, I’d have bitten your right arm off.

“I’ve proven if you stay on the front foot and believe in miracles, miracles can happen.

“I’ve never not believed that we can stay up. It’s been a very emotional few months and I don’t think I’ll be able to speak or talk if we stay up.

“This was a cup final and I truly haven’t thought about Saturday. I will work extremely hard this week to try and keep the football club in the league.

“We will if these players perform like that again.”

Asked to give his verdict on the overall performance from Weymouth, Wilkinson felt the display had been the Terras’ best of the season.

“For me, it’s the top performance because of the pressure,” he insisted.

“Don’t get me wrong, the Wimbledon games were brilliant and I always remind people.

“That was a different situation. To come here at one of the hardest grounds in the division, we’ve got something to play for.

“We’ve got no second chances. I have to say, that is the number one performance.

“Guess what? They’re going to have to beat it on Saturday.”
