GUNGHO MARKETING 38

WJNC WILDCATS 28

GUNGHO Marketing avoided an upset over Division One newbies WJNC Wildcats, winning 38-28 in the South & West Dorset Netball League.

After a slow start, Gungho and recently-promoted Wildcats played a very closely contested first quarter, with Gungho taking a slim two-goal lead into quarter-time.

In the second quarter, precision passing into Gungho’s shooting circle was countered by interceptions from Wildcats’ defence.

GA Olivia Conning’s experience shone through as she read play well and shot accurately, helping her team extend their lead to seven goals at half-time.

In the third quarter, Wildcats moved Maria Ratulailai to GA, which proved to be an effective change as she sank shot after shot.

Wildcats had a very strong quarter as they caught up to Gungho and were only two goals behind, before Gungho dug deep and refreshed their lead going into the final 15 minutes.

Gungho came out with determination in the final quarter, and they managed to pull away once again to take the win.

ZEST 53

EVOLVED TUNING 8

ZEST enjoyed a more comfortable 53-8 victory over Evolved Tuning, preserving their perfect Division Two record.

Zest got off to a great start in the first quarter, with long passes into their shooters meaning they quickly got points on the board.

Despite their great movement, Evolved made several errors that Zest were able to capitalise on.

After some positional changes at quarter-time, Evolved’s attack became more effective, and they scored some well-deserved goals. Zest, however, remained very strong.

The weather began to play a significant role in the second half of the game, with the ball and the court becoming slippery.

As a result, the number of errors from both sides increased but despite this Zest continued to dominate.

Evolved worked themselves into the game but could not seem to convert their attacking opportunities into goals as effectively as their opponents, so Zest came out convincing winners.

FIRST FIT WINDOWS 34

ARTIFEX GRIFFINS 36

THE closest game of the round saw Artifex Griffins edge First Fit Windows 36-34 in Division One.

Griffins started off strong and fast with excellent shooting from GS Candice Barton and GA Rhianna Nutman, whilst their defence piled the pressure on First Fit.

Griffins opened a clear seven-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.

First Fit started the second quarter strong with three consecutive goals and with Chantelle Halloran now moved to GA, they picked up the pace of their play.

So much so that they stormed ahead and led 21-18 at half-time.

Griffins started the third quarter as fast and swiftly as they had the first and put several goals on the board.

There were lots of small mistakes made by both teams in this quarter as the game became increasingly intense.

By the quarter-time break, First Fit’s lead was down to just one goal.

Both teams understandably came out fighting in the final quarter, with positional changes across the court.

First Fit fought to the final second but after a very intense last quarter Griffins took the win 36-34.

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 92

DREAM DIGITAL 5

TAKING a dominant 92-5 win over Dream Digital, the standout result of Division Two belonged to Joe Newton Electrical.

Joe Newton dominated in this clash. They took the lead early with accurate passing and swift movement and kept their foot on the pedal for the whole game.

Whilst Dream were persistent in their defending, they struggled in attack to convert this into goals.

Dream did manage to find some flow through court in the final quarter, but it was Joe Newton’s consistency, accuracy and speed in attack that saw them take a huge win.
