POOLE Town have announced the signing of Cameron Murray on a permanent deal for the 2023/24 Southern League Premier South season.

Poole had obtained Murray’s services from Weymouth for much of the previous campaign in what was effectively a loan move.

Murray proved an instant hit at the BlackGold Stadium, becoming a fixture in the Dolphins’ midfield across 23 games, four man-of-the-match awards, one goal and two assists.

Murray exits Weymouth after four seasons in which he amassed 124 appearances, scoring eight goals and recording ten assists.

Taking to social media, Poole said: “The club is delighted to announce that Cam Murray has signed a contract for the 2023/24 season.

“Cam proved a brilliant addition to our midfield as the number of man-of-the-match awards demonstrated and we are very excited to contemplate him being “one of our own”.

Murray’s Weymouth departure ends an uncertain spell for the ex-Dorchester man, with Terras boss Bobby Wilkinson insisting he remained part of his plans.

Speaking to Echosport in February, he said of Murray: “He’s still in my plans but at the moment I’d rather have him playing games than sitting on the bench, because he’s going to be important.

“Cam is still very important to this group. We spoke and he said he’d still like to carry on playing games. Sometimes, I’ve got to balance the books as well.

“That’s for us as a club to work out. People will have their opinions.”

Asked if Murray is part of his long-term plans, Wilkinson replied: “I’m not looking too far ahead.

“Cam’s a wonderful player. We just want to give him 90-minute football because he wants it as well. It’s a two-way thing.”
