SALLY Dinham-Scott reigned over her fellow competitors after a fun-filled Coronation Cup at Dorchester Tennis and Squash Club.

In a ceremony dating as far back as 2023, the queens and kings of the tennis courts were crowned as the club celebrated the Coronation Bank Holiday.

The Coronation Cup was a new format and although only doubles was played, there were three individual winners.

Winners were decided on a points-scoring system.

Only tie-breaks were played, with and against the other three players on their court and rankings over several rounds were determined by points won minus points lost.

Some 24 participants keenly contested the tournament and overall winner, plus assuming the title of ‘Queen of King Charles’ court, was Dinham-Scott.

Alister Millar was sworn in as inner of Queen Camilla’s court, while Binny Blackburn ascended to the throne on Prince Harry’s court.

In the finest traditions of British Bank Holidays, the weather forecast was dreadful, but players persisted with the planned event despite the rainfall.

Everyone got a bit damp but the rulers were crowned after a great day’s tennis and a social potluck royal banquet in the clubhouse.

“We’ve had a great day of tennis, despite the typical Bank Holiday weather” said Al Clark, club chairman at the trophy presentation.

“Many thanks to everyone for participating and spectating and for bringing along such delicious food for our royal banquet.

“This was a great way to end this historic Coronation weekend.

“Well done to all our winners, particularly Sally for being the overall winner.”
