WEYMOUTH Golf Club has become the latest facility to adopt gender-neutral tees in line with the sport’s growing focus on inclusivity.

Golfers will now choose from four tees based on their ability and individual preference, replacing the previous tee system which separated players by gender.

Tees are now coloured black, yellow, blue and green in order of difficulty, with black being the hardest and green the least taxing.

Gender-neutral tees are now a common sight on golf courses in the UK, with clubs encouraged to adopt the initiative as the sport aims to change what have previously been perceived as outdated viewpoints on inclusivity.

A club spokesperson said: “Weymouth Golf Club, known for its dedication to inclusivity and progressive values, is thrilled to announce the introduction of gender-neutral tees.

“Golf has long been seen with traditional gender-specific tees dictating the playing experience. However, Weymouth Golf Club recognises that the time for change has come.

“By introducing gender-neutral tees, the club aims to create an inclusive environment where golfers of all genders can enjoy the game on an equal footing.”

By removing gender-specific markers, the club is aiming to open its doors wider to golfers of all backgrounds.

Weymouth are also targeting a more inclusive experience for women, paving the way for greater inclusivity and ensuring that golfers can compete and excel on an equal playing field.

Following the launch of the new gender-neutral tees, Weymouth Golf Club celebrated with the Coronation Bowmaker competition for all members.

Ex-ladies captain, Jean Vile, had the honour of hitting the first tee shot from the new blue tees.
