WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson has confirmed midfielder Matt Buse has departed the Terras.

Buse, 25, played 15 times for the Terras last season in what was his third spell at Weymouth following stints in 2016 and the 2021/22 campaign.

His last appearance of 27 career matches for Weymouth came in the 4-0 Dorset Senior Cup final loss at Poole Town.

The ex-Torquay, Gloucester, Taunton, Chippenham and Bath man failed to play another minute of Weymouth’s pivotal seven remaining league games.

And with Wilkinson already signing Tom Bearwish, Max Hemmings, Harvey Slade and Scott Rees in central midfield, Buse has been allowed to find another club.

Speaking to Echosport, Wilkinson said: “It was my decision because of the fantastic midfielders we’ve got.

“Matt was a credit to the football club. I don’t think he got enough minutes, but that was the decision I made.

“Matt has moved on and I wish him all the best. He came in at a very difficult time.

“When you’ve got Max and Tom playing so well, they were the two I went with.

“We spoke last week and I just thanked him for a brilliant season and his dedication. We’re still on great terms.

“He’s a good player so he’ll end up going somewhere.”

Of last year’s squad, Buse’s exit means only Ben Thomson and Hari McCoy are yet to have their futures decided.

Buse is the 12th confirmed departure from Weymouth this summer after Harry Kyprianou, Ahkeem Rose, Dan Matsuzaka, ex-skipper Xander McBurnie, Zaki Oualah, Luke Nippard, Brad Ash, Tom Blair, Cam Murray, Harrison Bruton and Nathan Carlyle.
