GUNGHO MARKETING 29

WJNC WILDCATS 29

GUNGHO Marketing produced a stunning late comeback to earn a thrilling 29-29 draw with WJNC Wildcats in South & West Dorset League Division One.

Gungho turned over the first two Wildcats attacks to take an early lead.

Wildcats then found their feet, with their GA Francesca Everden making some fantastic decisions as they took a three-goal lead.

The second quarter saw Wildcats’ GK Maria Ratulailai pull off some spectacular interceptions, however Gungho’s WA Izzy Faulkner continued to work hard to get the ball to their shooters.

Wildcats now led by two goals but Gungho opened the third quarter with some smooth attacking play. This was, however, then tested by great defence from Wildcats, especially GD Laura Matthews and WD Brooke Bachelor.

Wildcats led by four into the final quarter but Gungho made effective changes, closing the gap and then the match went goal for goal several minutes.

After a thrilling encounter which created an incredible atmosphere, the result ended up as a draw.

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS B 14

ARTIFEX GRIFFINS 52

ELSEWHERE in Division One, Artifex Griffins enjoyed a far more straightforward match, beating Warmer Home Improvements B 52-14.

Griffins were first to gain some composure in attack as they took the lead.

Warmer B’s GD Sarah Bryant and GK Stephanie Nation made some wonderful interceptions, but their team struggled to convert these into goals and Griffins led by ten at quarter time.

Griffins’ GA Rachel Lockwood dominated the start of the second quarter, finding great space and converting her shots with ease.

Warmer B fought hard, but Griffins were more clinical and extended their lead.

Warmer B’s defence continued to be excellent in the third quarter, but they struggled with consistency and accuracy when in possession and as such could not close in on Griffins’ now substantial lead.

Both teams made multiple changes for the final quarter, but an unfortunate injury forced one of Warmer B’s players off the court and they had to finish the game with only six players.

Griffins also suffered a late injury, but had created enough of a points buffer to see out the victory.

THE VETERANS’ HUB 63

McCARTHY STONE 27

VETERANS’ Hub claimed a superb 63-27 win over McCarthy Stone in the Premier Division.

Veterans got off to a strong start as McCarthy made some errors in their attack due to pressure from a tough Veterans’ defence.

McCarthy’s GS Poppy Andrew became the focal point of their attack, demonstrating good control to get McCarthy on the board. Veterans, however, finished strongly to finish the quarter ahead.

Luckily for an error-strewn Veterans, McCarthy struggled to take their opportunities and the Hub remained in control of this high-tempo game at half-time.

The third quarter was the most evenly matched of the game so far. McCarthy’s attack had begun to figure out ways through Veterans’ defence, and shooters at both ends shot accurately.

Veterans then upped their intensity in the final quarter, continuing to convert their turnovers to take a convincing win.

DREAM DIGITAL 12

EXE TRAINING 46

EXE Training maintained their 100 per cent record in Division Two with a 46-12 win over Dream Digital.

Exe began dominantly as Dream struggled to keep up with their strong movement in midcourt.

Whilst Exe’s GK Gracie Kingston continually won back possession for them, Dream were most successful when they could counter-attack quickly against Exe’s tough defence.

With Exe well ahead, Dream continued to fight in the second half, their GD Dani Lyones giving it everything for the team.

Exe’s defence did not let up the pressure for even a second, which made it increasingly difficult for a fatiguing Dream attack to find their way through to goal.

Ultimately, Exe took a big win and remain top of table.
