DORSET paratriathlete Hannah Moore believes the upcoming World Triathlon Para Series in Swansea on Saturday will break new ground in inspiring more disabled people to be active.

The Stalbridge sensation, twice a world champion in her class, wants to see even more events championing accessible opportunities for all.

Moore will compete in Wales this weekend across a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run.

And Moore took time to reflect on her own sporting journey, and the importance of home sporting events for inspiring inclusive and accessible sporting opportunities.

She said: “It’s really important that major competitions like this are there to promote the sport for people.

“Hopefully people will be able to see us in Swansea and think it’s something that they’d like to have a go at, at any level.

“That can only be good for us in terms of wanting to grow the sport more.

“It’s great that the participation events are happening on the same day as the elite races as those racers will feel included in the sport.

“I think it’s really cool that our sport does that because hopefully it will inspire people, as well as being an opportunity to remove barriers for people, and actively welcome them into a sporting space they may not have ever thought was for them.

“Regarding my story, it’s probably been a bit unusual having no prior triathlon experience ten months after my amputation and then going onto compete internationally and winning the Worlds twice in two years.

“I’m really looking forward to competing in Swansea, obviously I missed out on racing there last year so for me it’s super exciting being able to compete in a World Series race in the UK.

“It will be the first time I’ve been able to, and I think it’s a great opportunity for everyone with it counting towards Paralympic points.

“The course looks very good, quite technical on the bike which will hopefully play to my strengths.”

The World Triathlon Para Series in Swansea will play an integral role in British Triathlon’s 'Everyone Starts Somewhere' campaign which aims to encourage disabled people to take part in swim, bike, run in whatever ways they are most comfortable.

The focus is to provide support and a safe environment for individuals to get involved and to achieve their goals, whatever those may be.
