DORCHESTER Town boss Glenn Howes believes the Magpies can measure their summer progress against Wimborne Town tomorrow (3pm).

Howes believes Wimborne are, to all intents and purposes, a Step 3 side after their improvements under manager Tim Sills, an impressive recruitment scheme and pre-season results.

Although Dorchester are the higher-league club, Howes is not taking Wimborne lightly and feels their meeting at the Avenue will reveal more about his own players.

He told Echosport: “I’m not bothered about their result against Yeovil, I’m not bothered about our result.

“I’ll be bothered about our result and performance against Wimborne. They won’t be your usual Step 4 team, very much like Frome and Bashley.

“This is going to be a true measure of where we’re at and we have to give a good account of ourselves, otherwise it leaves you with too much work to do.

“After Saturday it’s two weeks that we have left, that’ll leave us with six sessions. Eastleigh’s the last fixture, so we’ve got a run of four sessions where we can spend a huge amount of time together.”

Alex Moyse, Harvey-Joe Bertrand and Shaq Gwengwe picked up impact injuries in the 5-0 defeat by Yeovil on Tuesday.

Howes added: “They’ve had good minutes (those) three boys. There’s no heavy traumas in there, so if they need to be rested or left out, then we’ll leave them out.

“We certainly won’t be risking anybody. We have good numbers in (those) positions.”

Howes also confirmed skipper Callum Buckley has missed the previous three friendlies with a knee issue.

He said: “Buckers has had a bit of swelling in and around the knee joint, so we haven’t risked Callum.

“We’re still working on his condition. I’m not sure he’ll be ready for Saturday, we’re just not willing to risk anybody.”
