DORCHESTER Town first-team coach Brian Churchill applauded the Magpies for finding their shooting boots during a 3-0 win over Eastleigh on Tuesday.

The victory means the Magpies finish pre-season with three victories, three losses and a draw to their name.

Dorchester thrilled the Avenue Stadium crowd with three goals in the space of 18 minutes, Jordan Ngalo igniting his side with a sweet low strike from 20 yards.

Trialist B, a striker by trade, then hounded Eastleigh keeper Tommy Scott into a mistake and slotted home from a narrow angle before Leighton Thomas netted a header.

Ngalo, playing in a more advanced midfield position, also hit the woodwork before the break but neither side conjured a clear-cut opening in a second half fragmented by substitutions.

Speaking to Dorchester’s media team, Churchill said: “On transition we counter-attacked really well and, for a change, we were clinical in front of goal.

“It was nice for the front two to score and it was a good first half. We had a trialist sitting in the CDM position. That’s what we wanted and gives the licence for Jordan to push forward more.

“The fruits of that are the two goals he’s scored Saturday and (Tuesday). He’s got a massive smile on his face, so long may that continue.”

Churchill added: “We’re very satisfied with the first-half performance.

“Not so much the second half but if you change that amount of personnel it ended up looking like it was a team that had never played together, and it probably was.

“First half we were really pleased with the number of chances we created. We limited them to zero chances.”

Dorchester’s final friendly provided a final chance to top up match minutes for the Magpies’ squad ahead of a block of training sessions before the new season.

Churchill said: “There was a few that needed it. Leighton lasted the course, which was good after coming off with cramp on Saturday.

“Then, it was great to get 90 minutes into Callum Buckley ahead of what’s left of pre-season, which is four heavy training sessions.”

Dorchester begin their Pitching In Southern League Premier South campaign at Merthyr Town on Saturday, August 5 (3pm).
