“VERY proud” Weymouth manager Bobby Wilkinson has reflected on a whirlwind first 50 competitive games in charge of the Terras.

Wilkinson came to the club in September 2022, tasked with turning around the club’s fortunes on the pitch after a poor start had yielded just two points by mid-September.

Wilkinson led Weymouth to the FA Cup first round for the first time in 15 years and later helped keep the club in the Vanarama National League South on goal difference.

That miracle came despite Weymouth being seven points adrift of Dulwich Hamlet in the final safe position with three games of the season remaining.

Speaking to Echosport after reaching the milestone, Wilkinson said: “I’m very proud to reach 50 games but more about the challenge in front of me.

“I did it for the club to keep the team in the league and then have an opportunity to build a side, compete and start the process for the future for Weymouth.

“I can’t believe it’s 50 games, I’ll be real about that. It’s been the most challenging months of my life, I didn’t want to let anyone down.

“It’s been the most stressful months but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m loving my time at Weymouth and there’s still a long way to go.”

Asked what he hopes to achieve in the next 50 games, he replied: “Success is why I came in, I didn’t come in for any other reason.

“Leaving the ground seeing people wearing the badge with pride, that’s where they are at the moment. That’s the players making sure that continues.

“And just to try and bring success to Weymouth, that’s what I’ve done my whole career. I’ve come to win stuff and not make up the numbers. I don’t believe in stuff like that.”
