HAMBLE CLUB 3

BRIDPORT crashed out of the Isuzu FA Vase in the first qualifying round as higher-league Hamble Club scored a late penalty to win 3-2 at St Mary’s Field.

The Bees will look towards a first half brimming with missed chances as Chris Herbst’s men led 1-0 and 2-1 before succumbing to their Step 5 opponents.

Riley Weedon put the hosts in front on 13 minutes with a deft 25-yard chip, catching Hamble keeper Felix Bruce in nomansland.

Chances came and went for Sol Ayunga and Fred Parsons, who shot and headed wide respectively, but Hamble regrouped and found an equaliser when Nick Yeomans fired home from 18 yards.

Bridport had to ride out Hamble pressure before Parsons got the final touch in a goalmouth scrap in first-half injury time.

Perhaps with the wasted chances on their minds, Bridport were punished when Clayd Roach faded in from the right and lashed past Jordon Scadding for 2-2.

And Bridport were sent packing when Adam Diaz was penalised, harshly in the Bees’ view, for a foul in the box, allowing Roach to beat Scadding from the spot.

Herbst said: “It was just very frustrating, it didn’t really go for us. We conceded sloppy goals and I’ve been saying we’ve got to shut up shop.

“The availability of players killed us as well, having six out. I don’t want to blame it on that but it certainly doesn’t help.

“We had chances and we need to be savvy in front of goal. People don’t look at how many chances you create, they look at the score and we’ve got to start finishing these chances.

“First half, we could’ve gone in two or three up at least and we didn’t. They were really good chances as well. Everyone’s really deflated.”

On the penalty decision, Herbst added: “Diaz said he didn’t touch, he made an attempt at the ball and pulled out.

“It’s very frustrating. All the players said it shouldn’t have been a penalty, and there should’ve been a red card as well.

“They took Riley out, off the ground and through the back.”

Hamble receive £550 as winners, with Bridport taking home £160. The Bees now turn their attentions to a home derby against Honiton on Tuesday (7.30pm).
