BUGLERS maintained their 100 per cent record in the South & West Dorset League Premier Division with a rainy 44-21 win over Gungho Marketing.

A turnover off the mark for Buglers saw them take an early lead and tight pressure from their defence saw the lead extend into this first quarter.

Gungho managed to force some errors into the goal end and they kept the pressure with good marking of their opposition, initially taking control of the game.

Meanwhile, great movement by Gungho shooter Georgia Pearson gave the team some revived confidence.

Changes in the third quarter from Buglers added some spice to the game. Gungho GD Erin Purnell got some great interceptions but was unable to dent Buglers extending their lead as they closed out victory.

TEAM WAIKIKI 19

EXE Training got off the mark in Division One thanks to a 26-19 win over Team Waikiki.

The first quarter saw end-to-end play and great defensive rebounds from both teams, with neither showing particular dominance initially as Waikiki led by one goal.

Exe GK Gracie Kingston stepped up the defence in the second quarter with some clever interceptions which prevented Waikiki keeping the lead at the end of the second quarter.

Although still close, Exe started to break away with a small half-time lead of 10-8.

Exe settled into the second half of the game a bit quicker, although the centre court was a tightly-fought contest. The game was edge of your seats close, right into the last quarter, with one goal in it.

The final quarter saw Exe extend their lead, scoring 11 goals with some accurate shooting by Maddie Crumpton, despite some incredible interceptions from Waikiki GK Vicki Bartliff.

DREAM Digital also opened their winter season account in Division Two with a 23-17 success over WJNC Waves.

Both teams started strong with multiple turnovers mid-court.

Strong defending from Dream’s defending duo Lou Thompson and Jordan Sawyer put pressure on Waves, but accurate shooting from their GA Willow Charlton resulted in a 5-5 score.

The second quarter continued in even fashion, demonstrating great interceptions and moving the ball into the circle, while Dream Digital GA Theresa Briers was shooting with high accuracy.

At half-time, the score was 10-9 to Dream but the second period remained a battle for possession with strong challenges from both teams.

Dream’s defence continued to mark tightly creating a few missed opportunities for Waves, who fought back when C Amelia Robinson made some vital interceptions.

Rain set in during the last quarter, but Dream were able to extend their lead with some exceptional shooting to take victory.

THE WATERLOO 27

ARTIFEX Sirens currently lead the Division Two standings after a 51-27 triumph over The Waterloo.

The first quarter saw Sirens kicking off strong with great work between C Rihanna O Connor and WA Deena Ritchie down court.

Fantastic shooting from Sirens’ GA Jemima Gromm enabled Sirens to start pulling away with the lead.

Waterloo started their season really strong with fierce defending from GK Linda Cannon.

Waterloo began the second quarter with some tactical changes which provided them with speed around the centre court, but Sirens’ experience kept turning over balls to convert and extend their lead.

At the end of the first half, Sirens were leading comfortably 29-13.

The third quarter brought on long-time league player Lisa White (WD) adding more pressure to the game, while Waterloo’s GA Lexie Davis worked really hard around the circle.

The final quarter had Waterloo’s supporters cheering to give them the added boost.

They fought until the end, but Sirens’ WA Jackie Brisbane secured some accurate feeds to GS Kate O’Shaughnessy, capping a well-deserved win for Sirens, amid amazing determination from Waterloo.
