WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson extolled the virtues of a healthier-looking squad following the 3-1 win over Eastbourne and added: “I will turn us into a force”.

Wilkinson’s men were boosted by the return of top-scorer Ezio Touray and central defensive midfielder Olu Durojaiye plus left-back David Sesay.

However, it was the performance of Dan Roberts that caught many fans’ eye as he set up both Tom Bearwish and Touray to help put Weymouth 2-0 up at half-time.

Fletcher Holman got one back for Boro four minutes after coming on but Roberts grabbed a deserved breakaway goal in the 97th minute to wrap up the points for the Terras.

And Wilkinson highlighted how having extra options across the pitch naturally strengthened Weymouth’s performance as the Terras moved up to 16th.

He told Echosport: “We just tried to take the pressure off this week. We’re a good squad when everyone is fit and available to play.

“Sometimes, you can’t play everyone but this week I was so proud because everyone was available.

“You had strikers on the pitch and scored goals. You had your holding midfielder, I had a solid back four.

“Look at the picture, give me those players fit and I will turn us into a force, compete and do well.

“We’ve competed against a full-time team and I thought we were outstanding. We’ve kept the ball really well.

“We said we were going to get them on the break in the second half and we did.”

Wilkinson also praised Weymouth for taking their chances early on, whereas last week in the Tonbridge draw they hit the post.

He added: “Fine margins. We didn’t take our chances last week and (Saturday) we did. It’s two outstanding goals from the boys.

“Tom, I changed his role to get him in the box and he scores a great goal. It’s five games unbeaten, it’s two wins and three draws.

“It’s actually an unbelievable run we’re on for all the illnesses and injuries and the personal stuff.”

Wilkinson reserved praise for Roberts, who he stationed out wide to utilise extra space offered by Eastbourne’s narrow formation.

“I woke up last Sunday and said: ‘I need to play him out wide,’” Wilkinson said.

“They like to mark him down the middle and he gets more room outside because the full-backs tuck in. It’s something I thought about.

“We did all our analysis and I told him where he’s playing, to make sure he makes the pitch big.

“I have to give him the credit for listening, because he wants to play down the middle. He’s got so much energy and he can find space.

“It worked and then to have Ezio down the middle, he drops in and gets a goal. It was our day, we all got it right.”

Weymouth move on to a monster derby clash at arch enemies Yeovil Town tomorrow (7.45pm).
