BOSS Tom Killick is hoping his Dorchester Town charges can start to rise up the Southern League Premier south table sooner rather than later.

Five games into Killick’s tenure as manager at the Avenue, Dorch are yet to win, currently sitting in 17th place with a three-point gap to the relegation zone.

Tomorrow (3pm) Magpies travel north to face Hanwell Town, who are positioned two places higher in the league table.

Discussing the upcoming fixture, Killick told Echosport: “We don't really like the way the league table’s looking at the moment.

“The quicker we can pull away from those lower reaches, the better.

“I've learned that in this league, if you start reading too much into the league table, you're often asking for trouble.

“But we just want these games to come along to try and get the points we need to rise up the table, sort of irrespective as to the opposition.”

Whilst also trying to rectify Dorchester’s fortunes, Killick has also started to form the squad to his liking.

However, the former Poole Town man shared how it was difficult to assess the squad whilst actively fighting for every point, but insisted that he remained “enthusiastic” at the challenge ahead.

He continued: “It hasn’t been easy because you're trying to assess things, in quite a pressured sort of situation.

“And you have to do it probably quicker than ideally you'd like to because decisions do have to be made.

“So from that point of view, it has been a bit of a challenge in terms of trying to get to grips with everything as quickly as possible. But, I am really enjoying it.

“Like I said, I have been quite invigorated by it because Poole was a very different situation where I've been there for so long, so every player that was at the club was someone I'd recruited, someone I knew about, knew people's abilities.

“I knew people's personalities inside out.

“So, I went from that situation to suddenly other than the Poole lads (Jack Dickson, Will Spetch, and Corby Moore), having to completely learn and foster relationships with people that I didn't really have any knowledge of, or at most, a very sort of sketchy knowledge of their playing ability.

“It just has been a very different situation.

"But I am very enthusiastic about what lies ahead albeit, I am under no illusions that there's quite a lot to be done.”

Defender Will Spetch will miss the trip to Hanwell, as well as the subsequent game against Basingstoke Town after being handed a two-game suspension.

“He's got a two-match ban,” Killick began to explain.

“Because it's a second yellow, but also a second sending off of the season.”
