DORCHESTER Town must command the mindset of attempting to pick up points in every game, beginning with Chesham United away on Saturday (3pm).

That is the message from manager Tom Killick after the Magpies have in recent weeks squandered the opportunity to cash in on strong performances and, in some cases, 1-0 leads.

The Magpies lost 2-1 to promotion-chasing Walton & Hersham on Saturday having led through Jordan Ngalo’s opener.

And they now face an even stiffer test away to former leaders Chesham, who sit second after a 4-0 pasting by Plymouth Parkway on Saturday.

Dorchester have lost their last six games against the Generals and are winless in 10 meetings since 2016, when the Magpies beat United 3-2.

But Killick is beginning to instil a desire in the Magpies to take points from each game, regardless of opponents.

He told Echosport: “(Chesham) were my pick to win the league, I thought it would be between them and Poole, if I’m honest.

“They’ve backed that up to a degree, albeit they’ve had by their standards a couple of indifferent results.

“Without doubt, in terms of their squad, they’re certainly one of the most powerful teams in the league.

“There’s a confidence internally that we are really going in the right direction and the basics are in place for us to push on.

“We have to accept that results are not reflecting that. We do need to find a way on a more regular basis of converting good performances into points.

“It does become slightly irrelevant who you’re playing. A lot of people may look and think Chesham away is almost like a free hit for us.

“But we’re in desperate need of the points, so I don’t see it that way. We have to try and get something from this game.”

Killick added that Dorchester cannot be fussy in their quest to clinch points and rise from 18th place.

He said: “Our league position is not what we want it to be and we need to improve it as quickly as possible. We have to look to pick up points in every game. We can’t pick and choose.

“That’s the big thing everyone’s looking for in terms of consistency and mindset.

“We can’t go to Chesham thinking if we get something, great, and if we don’t then no-one expects us to. That’s not what I’m about.

“The players need to understand there’s a pressure to get something from the game.”

Jack Dickson (ankle) is expected to be fit but Dorchester continue to monitor skipper Ngalo’s hamstring niggle. Jordi Foot remains unavailable for personal reasons.
