CHESHAM UNITED 2

Edwards 69, Obi 90+13

DORCHESTER TOWN 0

DORCHESTER Town suffered a 2-0 defeat at title-chasing Chesham United in their Pitching In Southern League Premier South clash at The Meadow.

Chesham’s super subs did the business after a fruitless 70 minutes in which they hit the woodwork twice, as Jordan Edwards and Ogochukwu Obi put the game to bed.

Obi’s goal was scored in the 103rd minute after 13 added minutes were required following a serious shoulder injury to Dorchester keeper Adam Forster.

With no back-up in the squad for the hospitalised Forster, the development leaves the Magpies with a race against time to find a replacement goalkeeper for the Boxing Day derby with Poole Town.

Magpies’ boss Tom Killick made two changes to the side that lost 2-1 to Walton & Hersham last time out as Exeter loan duo Pedro Borges and Ed James returned to the starting XI.

Injured captain Jordan Ngalo missed out and Ieuan Turner dropped to the bench, alongside new signing Jonny Efedje and retained substitutes Leighton Thomas, Drew Eccott-Young and Louie Slough.

Dorchester, playing in yellow to avoid a clash of kits with Chesham, began the brighter as Olaf Koszela flashed a shot over Zaki Oualah’s bar in the second minute.

The Magpies then survived a major scare when Chesham hit the woodwork in the fifth minute.

Dorchester did a superb job of containing Chesham in the first half and always possessed a threat on the counter with their pace.

One such instance came in the 26th minute when Will Fletcher forced ex-Weymouth keeper Zaki Oualah into a smart save in what was a gilt-edged chance for the Magpies.

But Chesham were content to work their openings with the majority of possession, although they could not work Forster into a meaningful save.

A prime example came in the 34th minute when former Crawley forward Ricardo German lashed an effort into the side-netting.

German was active again just before half-time when, on this occasion, he beat Forster but not the post as Dorchester’s goal lived a charmed life.

Dorchester were later forced into a substitution at half-time when Ed James went off in a precautionary switch following his recent recovery from an ankle knock, replaced by Ieuan Turner.

Chesham themselves made a switch that would later prove crucial as Edwards was introduced at the expense of Steve Brown.

In the second half, the Magpies scrapped away to frustrate Chesham, picking up bookings for Will Spetch and Ollie Haste.

But there was nothing they could do about Edwards’ goal, his finish agonisingly trickling over the line after a defensive mix-up with Forster committed.

And, to make matters worse for Forster, he landed awkwardly on his shoulder in attempting to scoop the ball away before it crossed the line.

A long stoppage in play was required to treat the Bath keeper, dual-registered with the Magpies.

He was eventually stretchered off and, having no sub goalkeeper present, Dorchester sent on Slough with Spetch donning the gloves.

Dorchester did test Chesham’s resolve late on as they chased an equaliser, Koszela going close again, and 13 added minutes jangled home nerves further.

However, with Dorchester committing numbers upfield, the Magpies were hit on the counter as Obi beat makeshift keeper Spetch.

The result pushed Dorchester into 19th, bottom four territory, while extending to 11 matches their winless streak against the Generals.
