BRANDON Goodship is “enjoying the highs” of his rich goalscoring form after his double at Taunton Town helped Weymouth to a deserved 2-0 victory.

Goodship now has 10 goals for the season and has netted seven times in his last six matches.

His latest brace for the club also took him above former player and manager Steve Claridge’s 91 in the all-time Terras goal charts.

The victory sealed back-to-back wins with clean sheets for the Terras following the 3-0 success over Slough last time out.

And Goodship preferred to look at the bigger picture, Weymouth jumping into 16th and 11 points clear of the bottom four.

He told Echosport: “I’m delighted, honestly the three points was the main thing for us and to add two goals to my tally is a good moment for me.

“I’m enjoying it, I have a feeling I’m going to score every time I go on the pitch.

“It puts us a bit further adrift (of the drop zone) and a bit closer to where we feel like we should be.”

Goodship’s double at Taunton comprised of a well-taken volley and a deadly clean-through finish.

Asked how pleased he was with the manner in which he scored, Goodship said: “It’s one of them things, when you’re playing with confidence they go your way.

“I’ve had it before in my career when things aren’t going your way, it takes a bobble and doesn’t go in and things like that.

“You’ve got to take the rough with the smooth in this funny game because it’s a rollercoaster. I’m enjoying the highs at the minute and hopefully they continue.”

On beating Claridge’s record, Goodship hinted at targeting the 100 mark before 2023/24 ends.

He said: “I’m not really one to look at stats and set myself targets and stuff but obviously there’s a big milestone within reaching distance for me.

“I’m just ploughing ahead and scoring as many as I can to try and reach that, helping us climb the table in the mean time.

“I don’t want to speak too much about (100 goals) because people will say what they’re going to say.

“I don’t mind the pressure because it’s part and parcel of the game. Obviously, 100 goals for the club would be massive for me.

“To score 100 for this big club, a club close to my heart, would mean a lot.”

Weymouth also won back-to-back National League South games for the first time this season and Goodship spoke of the need to follow up the 3-0 win over Slough.

“It was a big step for us,” he said.

“It’s one we’ve spoken about quite a lot as a group, how we’d play well and get a result and then not follow it up.

“It was nice to follow it up after a break because of frozen pitches. We just need to keep plugging away and doing what we’re good at, because it was a battle out there.

“It was a tough pitch to play on and I thought we did the ugly side. Everyone put in a shift. The three boys in midfield bossed the midfield and that won us the game, I think.”

Weymouth travel to Dartford on Saturday (3pm).
