TEAM WAIKIKI 11

EXE TRAINING 31

EXE Training pulled themselves into fifth in Division One with a 31-11 win over Team Waikiki.

Windy and wet conditions prevailed but did not deter an aggressive start in the centre court from both teams with Exe C Beth Gore winning some early interceptions amid brilliant attacking play.

Exe GD Bex Hedditch kept pressure on the defence to open a 6-3 lead before securing another five goals in succession. Exe took advantage of Waikiki’s forced errors in the centre court moving the ball to GS Christina Paget, who would make the rebounds and tally up her numbers as Exe led 16-5.

Exe continued to utilise their strong defence and turn the balls down to their shooting circle, dominating the remainder of the game. In the last quarter Waikiki fought hard but a combination of Exe’s formidable defence and accurate shooting from Paget resulted in a comfortable win.

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS B 12

ZEST 15

ZEST secured a 15-12 win during a low-scoring thriller in Division Two.

A slow and cautious start from both teams due to the weather resulted in minimal goals.

Despite Zest scoring first, Warmer were able to creep ahead.

Warmer’s formidable GK Yolanda Mortimer made it hard for Zest to work the ball around the circle.

Weather conditions continued to hamper game flow as footwork and possession errors disrupted play.

Zest fought back and got into a better rhythm, with shooters Emma Mills and Annabel Bartlett evening out the score at 6-6 at half-time.

Going into the second half, both teams were evenly matched with lots of turnovers and when connections down the court were good, shooters made the conversion to slowly build the scores.

A change between Warmer’s GA & GS worked well to capitalise on the attacking play. Going into the final quarter saw changes in both circles for the Warmer team.

Zest’s GD Zoe Whitefield continued to control play through the centre third with her copious offers and strong passes up the court and her team did enough to edge to victory and remain undefeated.

DREAM DIGITAL 11

WJNC WAVES 28

WJNC Waves moved up the Division Two table with a 28-11 win over Dream Digital.

Waves secured the first goal, but Dream’s shooters Lou Thompson and Theresa Briers worked well together in the D to secure some goals.

Waves’ GK Nicole Gawron-Quental upped her game and provided some strong interceptions enabling Waves to take an 8-4 lead.

In the second quarter, Dream made good space with C Molly Horton and WA Emily Harwick working well together.

However, strong defensive play from Waves and accurate passing from their WA Ruby Watters and the exceptional Willow Charlton extended their lead.

Dreams’ defensive trio worked hard but could not regain control of play with Waves comfortably leading 19-4 at half-time.

Dream changed their defence in the third quarter with Horton going into GD and making some strong interceptions and while Waves had a strong streak of goals, Briers was able to break their flow with a goal.

However, Dream could not prevent a convincing win for Waves.
