DORCHESTER T 2 Mudge 9, Forbes 11 AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2 Pitman 38, 90 DORCHESTER Town were denied victory over AFC Bournemouth by a last-gasp strike from Brett Pitman in last night's pre-season friendly at the Jewson Stadium.

The Magpies raced into a 2-0 lead courtesy of Jamie Mudge and Ivan Forbes. But Pitman pulled one back ahead of half-time before equalising with virtually the last kick of the game.

Magpies' boss Shaun Brooks though, hailed the display of his team against their Coca-Cola League Two opponents.

He said: "I thought the performance was fantastic, we played some terrific football. I don't want the late equaliser to take any gloss off a fantastic night for the club.

"The team's played really well and I hope the fans enjoyed it, I thought Darren Anderton for Bournemouth was wonderful with some of his passing and his enthusiasm.

"I was a little bit disappointed to concede the first goal, they didn't create too many chances but we got a bit ragged after we made some changes and they picked us off right at the death. But you can't take anything away from the quality of our football, it's been as a good as I've seen since I've been at the club."

The game burst into life on nine minutes when Mudge opened the scoring. A high cross from Forbes was not dealt with and Kevin Hill laid the ball back to Danny Clay who, rather than shoot, played a clever pass into the path of Mudge and he struck low into the far corner from just inside the box.

Just two minutes later and Dorchester doubled their lead with a superb solo effort from Forbes - his fifth goal of pre-season.

The Portuguese forward beat former England international Darren Anderton to the ball in the centre circle and burst towards goal.

No one looked willing to challenge Forbes until a feeble attempt from Jeremy Gerimi. Forbes though, rode the challenge before sliding the ball under the advancing Ryan Pryce in goal.

Cherries' Marvin Bartley missed a great opportunity midway through the half when he shot wide following Pitman's pass.

Hill then headed over from Nick Crittenden's corner after arriving late at the back post.

Pitman forced a good save from Michael McEntagart but, from the resulting corner, the trialist keeper was unable to prevent the Bourne-mouth striker reducing the deficit on 38 minutes.

The ball found its way to the back stick where Pitman volleyed towards goal. The ball hit both an upright and McEntagart but the referee's assistant adjudged that it had crossed the line.

The second period saw fewer chances, but just past the hour mark Pitman headed straight at substitute gloveman Nick Hutchings from close range.

With ten minutes left Mudge failed to bring the ball under control as Pryce raced out of goal.

Ryan Moss then met Jamie Gleeson's corner but Joel Ward was there to clear off the line in front of his keeper.

Hutchings held on to a drive from Anderton before Pitman, on the stretch, equalised in the fifth minute of added on time - smashing Matt Ritchie's lofted pass beyond Hutchings.

Of his trialist keepers, Brooks added: "Again, both have done okay. We will speak to Michael and then Nick in a couple of days. Until we say any different we will keep working with these two."
