WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson fears Calvin Brooks could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Brooks sustained the injury late in the 1-0 win at Dartford and has missed Weymouth’s next five matches.

The versatile vice-captain, who can play at centre-back or right-back, has been seen on crutches while attending Weymouth’s 4-1 and 4-2 home losses to Worthing and Hampton respectively.

Brooks’ injury comes amid a torrid defensive spell for Weymouth, with the Terras shipping 12 goals in their past four league matches.

His absence, along with the loan expiry of influential centre-back Joe Cook, has been hugely felt despite deals for defenders Harry Jones, Corey Panter and Nazir Bakrin.

And the Terras are awaiting the full extent of the defender’s injury, although Wilkinson conceded the early feedback is negative.

He told Echosport: “He’s out for the season. I don’t make excuses but I hope people understand that I had a settled back four and it’s been destroyed.

“We’ve got two centre-halves playing together that haven’t played together and it’s showing, but I’ll get it right.”

Elaborating on the nature of Brooks’ issue, Wilkinson added: “We’re still waiting for certain developments on it.

“It’s not great but that’s happened from the very first day I came here. I lost two full-backs (Teddy Howe and Harry Kyprianou) at the same time last year.

“Then, everyone thought it was doom and gloom and I turned that around. I’ll turn this around.

“We are playing the big boys right now and we’re not a big boy. We’re going to have to suck it up and stick together.”

Weymouth next host St Albans on Tuesday.
