PORTLAND United chairman Matt Lucas has moved to manage expectations as the Blues continue to push for the Velocity Wessex League Premier Division play-offs.
Portland have been well in contention for the top five for the majority of the 2023/24 campaign, raising hopes of reaching the business end of the season with a shot at promotion.
In a previous interview with Echosport, Lucas revealed the Blues are prepared for life in Step 4 should the opportunity arise.
However, with Kyle Critchell’s men seemingly in no mood to relent in their pursuit of the play-offs, Lucas cooled suggestions that the goalposts have moved regarding a finishing position.

He said: “Anything is possible but we as a club are not getting ahead of ourselves.
“Yes, you always have to be diligent with regards to the progression of the club but no-one is thinking that we will be promoted.
“I’m not just saying that to take the pressure off the management team.
“We’re happy with where we are as a club and we’re further forward than we thought we would be at this stage. Anything else is a bonus.”
