ONLY four players have left Weymouth so far this summer.

Teddy Howe, Anthony Cheshire, Joel Rollinson and Tyrique Clarke have all parted company with the Terras.

Why did they leave, though?

That question has so far been unanswered, with the Terras wishing the quartet the customary good health for the future in an official announcement.

So, we caught up with Weymouth manager Mark Molesley to discuss his rationale behind letting the four players go.

Teddy Howe

ARGUABLY the biggest departure from Weymouth so far this summer, Teddy Howe exits having recorded two goals and nine assists in 59 games at right-back.

Molesley said: “I just think we’re not in the luxury of being able to keep everyone and being able to finance everyone.

“That’s the deal. We’ve got a certain budget and criteria we’ve got to stick to.

“I’m a manager, I can’t have everything that I want. We’re going to have to be clever with the budget.

“Teddy does travel far and he does have other offers. We decided it would be best to part ways amicably and he can move on and find another club.

“Again, another experienced, good player.”

Anthony Cheshire

COLLECTING just 16 appearances for Weymouth and not playing again since early December’s 3-1 loss at Torquay, Anthony Cheshire was the second exit.

Cheshire did earn game time on loan at former club Bracknell, before being recalled and failing to play another minute in the Weymouth jersey.

Molesley added: “I think he was frustrated before he came in with his lack of game time and he probably didn’t quite get it at the end of the season due to the form of the other centre-halves.

“I think he’s at the stage of his career where he needs guaranteed first-team football and unfortunately we couldn’t guarantee that.

“I’m not one to stand in anyone’s way. I want to see players do well. For his career and his age, he needs regular football.”

Joel Rollinson

JOEL Rollinson claimed only two goals and one assist in his time at Weymouth, before being loaned out to Beaconsfield Town.

Although he was eventually recalled and finished the season strongly for Weymouth, Molesley will not be extending his stay.

Molesley said: “Again, a really good lad and I’ve loved working with him.

“He needs regular first-team football and he does travel quite far. You’ve got to make sure you can provide what the players need.

“If they’re travelling a long way. That becomes quite expensive for the player, which means you have to reflect that in their wage.

“Then, they’re also travelling a long way and not quite getting the starts they want. It does get difficult.”

Tyrique Clarke

TYRIQUE Clarke played just 55 minutes of senior football at Weymouth and Dorchester, on loan, last season.

Largely due to long-term injury, he featured for only eight minutes in Terras colours and lasted only one half for Dorchester.

Molesley said: “He’s a young lad, loads of potential but needs to go and play regular football.

“I didn’t see enough of him and the bits of business that I have done in the middle of the park, that was always going to be difficult to guarantee him minutes as well.

“You look at the central midfielders we’ve already got in Tom Bearwish, Josh McQuoid and Charlie Rowan, it’s very competitive in there.

“You’ve got to be fair and honest with the players, I always have been. So, I wish them well.”
