DORSET & Wilts’ senior men’s team missed out on a trip to Twickenham by the narrowest of margins after losing 32-31 to the North Midlands.
The Twin Counties held a two-point lead in the final minutes but a transgression led to a penalty that was converted under extreme pressure to send North Midlands to the hallowed England turf.
Dorset & Wilts’ women fared little better as they looked to reach the Gill Burns county final.
They needed to beat Middlesex and hope other results went their way.

Sadly for them, despite upholding their end of the bargain with a 20-15 success, other outcomes elsewhere were unfavourable, leaving them out in the cold.
But it was not all doom and gloom as the men’s under-20 squad will play East Midlands at Twickenham in the Jason Leonard County Under-20 Championship.
This time Dorset & Wilts were on the right end of a one-point win, securing a 26-25 scoreline at Slaughtergate against Hampshire.
Dorset & Wilts led 26-13 at half-time but a red card in the 45th minute piled the pressure on as Hampshire chalked up two tries.
They needed a strong defensive action to preserve their lead and seal a place in the final against East Midlands on Saturday, June 15 (1pm).
