Sadly for them, despite upholding their end of the bargain with a 20-15 success, other outcomes elsewhere were unfavourable, leaving them out in the cold.

But it was not all doom and gloom as the men’s under-20 squad will play East Midlands at Twickenham in the Jason Leonard County Under-20 Championship.

This time Dorset & Wilts were on the right end of a one-point win, securing a 26-25 scoreline at Slaughtergate against Hampshire.

Dorset & Wilts led 26-13 at half-time but a red card in the 45th minute piled the pressure on as Hampshire chalked up two tries.

They needed a strong defensive action to preserve their lead and seal a place in the final against East Midlands on Saturday, June 15 (1pm).
