DORCHESTER manager Shaun Brooks is still looking for his side's first home win of the season but seemed pleased overall with a point after a strong second half performance from Team Bath in a 2-2 draw at the Jewson Stadium last night.

The Magpies had taken a 2-0 half-time lead through a Gary Warren own goal and a curled effort from Jamie Mudge.

But the Students hit back in the second period when Marc Canham scored from the penalty spot and Warren made amends by equalising eight minutes from time.

Brooks said: "First half, I thought we were excellent, the shape was good and we passed the ball really well and put balls into the box that were dangerous and defended excellently.

"In the second half we defended too deep and lost the ability to pass the ball and looked very nervous playing at home because we got stretched.

"We gave them a lot of room on the ball and for 35 minutes in the second half it was backs to the walls really.

"As disappointed as we are to have been two goals up and then pegged back, I think we were quite thankful to get a point in the end because they were by far the better side in the second half as we were in the first half."

The turning point was the 58th minute penalty award against Rone-yne Marsh-Brown.

Brooks added: "Roneyne clipped the back of the player, the lads seemed to think it was a bit harsh but the decision went against us."

The penalty visibly boosted the Students' confidence but Brooks felt that his players also aided the visitors' revival.

He said: "The penalty did give them impetus but we needed to hold a higher line and be a little bit braver.

"Sometimes you've got to try to keep possession a bit better than we did because if you keep giving the ball away you are going to find it hard work.

"The team got stretched and dropped deep because we were trying to protect the lead and a bit of nervousness crept in being at home and in the end we were lucky to get away with a point I feel.

"But it's stopped our two-game losing spell and we will work hard and try and get something at Welling on Saturday."

Substitute Leon Osei could have dramatically snatched all three points for the Magpies but pulled his low shot wide.

Brooks added: "It came quick to him and I think Jamie Gleeson might have been best to just fizz it along the goal-line rather than try the cut-back but it came quick and he's not taken it.

"But Leon's always a threat and he's a good impact player for us at the moment. When he starts, he's not been quite as effective as when he's come on for 15-20 minutes.

"He's got good ability but he's got to do things a little bit quicker because he loses possession a little bit too much. I think he's been used to playing teams where you can get the ball, beat everyone and score goals but he's moved up a bit now.

"He's definitely an attacking threat and a good option for us to have on the bench."

One injury concern for Brooks after the match was midfielder Kevin Hill who limped off ten minutes from time. But Brooks remained optimistic .

He said: "Kevin has a sore groin and ankle but all being well he will be okay for Saturday."
