Dorchester Town boss Tom Killick said he was ‘happy to be back’ on the touchline as they claimed their first win of the season, but insisted it was not due to his presence.

The manager took to the dugout for the first time in six games after recovering from sepsis as the Magpies ran out 1-0 winners against Gloucester City with 10 men.

After the game, Killick said: “I was just happy to be back. It was a long time to be out- Bashley was the last time I was on the touchline and that was six games ago.

“I’m pleased to be back but it’s nothing significant- just coincidental. The management team and players are a good group and responded well after difficult results.

“I’m so pleased with the players, and the supporters were fantastic- they realised that when a man was sent off that it would be difficult to retain the ball but that helped us defend the lead.”

Speaking on the game, Killick said: “We felt the pressure by having a low points return in build-up, but this win was vital and put us in more of a solid position.

“We played pretty well against a team that we would expect to finish in the higher reaches of the league. We did good to see out the game with 10 men for 20 minutes."

The Magpies travel along the south coast to play Winchester City tonight, and Killick said his side ‘can’t dwell on the victory’.

He said: “It’s a quick turnaround. One win is no big deal and we can’t get ahead of ourselves we have to maintain the physical and mental levels."
