WATERSIDE'S resounding 50-9 win over Wakeleys demonstrated why they have once again secured pole position in Division One on week three of the South & West Dorset Winter League.

Waterside outplayed newly-promoted Wakeleys from the start with outstanding shooting from Sue Lee and Caroline Mckay.

Sue Stevens shone for Waterside with accurate feeds into her shooters and fantastic mid-court play.

Wakeleys struggled from the outset against a superior team but were determined to challenge the league leaders until the final whistle.

The final score did not accurately reflect the intense and tireless work of Wakeley's defensive unit of Kate Gouder and Robin Acutt.

Olivia May's shooting for Wake-ley's was also accurate but she was not offered enough opportunity to shine due to the ball often being intercepted in the mid-court.

Autobitz enjoyed their second win of the season against Casy Comets 41-26. The start was very tight with the play going goal for goal but Autobitz excelled in the second quarter with fantastic shooting by Liz Courtice.

Autobitz's tatics of long cross-court passes left the Comets struggling to find an effective defensive strategy.

However, the defensive trio of Lisa Pierce, Trish Dunford and Hilary Caines were an asset to the Comets in a match that could otherwise have seen a much higher goal difference.

The other first division match between Jago Bruford and Riviera was a real nail-biter, with the lead changing every quarter.

Riviera's Rachel Scarff and Laura Gardner put on an excellent display of fast, accurate ball skills but these were matched by Jago's strong defence led by Rosie Flaherty and Katherine Garfath-Fox.

Going into the final quarter Jago had the lead by five goals but fantastic court play from Janet Parker and Becci Boatswain levelled the score.

The last four minutes was a see-saw battle with one team and then the other taking the lead but in the dying seconds Jago capitalised on a misplaced pass by Riviera and propelled the ball into their attacking circle where Lydia Brentnall and Jenny Tait secured a 32-30 victory.

In Division Two, Piddle Inn A clinically ensured their 58-25 vic-tory over Fitness for Life.

Superior shooting from Denise Meyers and Kirsty Wakelys ensured an early lead for Piddle, despite the strong defensive skills of Caroline Smith for Fitness.

Fliss Roper's skills as centre for Piddle shone as she played the ball up the court using speed and tidy footwork.

A surprise win for newly promoted Toymaster saw them triumph over Broadwey Motors 29-20.

Outstanding play by Carrie Dench and Charlotte Newman ensured their team's victory and secured second place in the league table.

At the other end of the spectrum Fowlers enjoyed a 24-13 win over GW Electrical.

Mandy Grafton was pivotal to Fowlers' success with excellent spacial awareness and first-class shooting but was at times challenged by the outstanding defensive work of Nicky Greenslade.

Sue Bennett and Christine Jones sealed the win for Fowlers with some key rebounds in the shooting circle and quick turnover to their attacking players.

However, Fowlers' win was mar-red when they were deducted five points for not supplying an umpire as per league rules, the consequence of which sees them languishing in last position.

The Division Three table sees SES holding first place above Team Waikiki, however, Waikiki did not play this week and therefore have a game in hand. The bottom of the table is currently being propped up by KW Roofing and Battens. But due to a lack of match reports being filed no further information can be disseminated.
