DORCHESTER emerged as the leading team of the South Dorset BA finals with a four-trophy haul on their own green - three of them being won by Peter Clarke.

He joined forces with Colin Ackerman in the pairs and that twosome with Barry Day took the triples. Clarke's other triumph came in the Baker Cup which Dorchester clinched for a third successive year.

Dorchester looked as though they would sail in when 10-2 ahead after eight ends of the triples against John Hodder, Tony Colton and John Avant but the Greenhill men fought back reducing the gap to 13-11 on the 16th.

That, however, was as close as Avant got because Clarke played tactical shots which brought singles on the last two ends.

After a short rest Ackerman and Clarke returned to action for the pairs and stood at 9-9 on 11 ends before Clarke established a grip on the game that carried him 18-9 in front over the next six ends against Max Dare and Keith Gentry of Bridport.

When Gentry fired and earned a four on the next end Bridport were still in with a chance but Dorchester held their nerve and took singles on the final three ends for a 21-13 result.

The Roger Nicholas foursome were Dorchester's heroes in the 65-49 victory against Greenhill in the three-rink Baker Cup. An 18-shot bonanza over seven ends carried Nicholas 24-7 up in a 31-12 card against Alec Bignall.

Edward Flatters suggested he would score another Dorchester success when establishing a 9-1 lead on six ends but Danny Brooks hit back to lead 19-18 only for Flatters to secure a 19-19 draw for Dorchester with a last-end single.

Kevin Walbridge struck back for Greenhill 18-15 against Clarke who had been 9-2 up.

Dorchester's other triumph came from Julie Corbin who took the ladies' singles 21-19 in a thriller against Bridget Hodder of Greenhill.

After standing at 7-7 Corbin edged 18-13 ahead only for Hodder to snatch the lead with a six-shot haul on the next three ends. Corbin responded with a double on the following end for a 20-19 lead and sealed matters with her final wood on the next end.
