BRIDPORT boss Ian Hutchinson is concerned by his side's mounting fixture list after Tuesday night's Dorset Senior Cup tie against Cobham Sports was abandoned due to floodlight failure.

The four sets of lights at St Mary's Field simultaneously malfunctioned as the players and officials emerged from the changing rooms for the second half.

After several minutes of uncertainty the decision was taken to replay the match next Tuesday, which has triggered the postponement of the scheduled Toolstation Division One fixture against Wells City.

The Bees were 2-1 up by virtue of goals from Dan Wise and Ashley Clarke after Cobham had stunned the hosts by taking the lead through James Law.

And Hutchinson, whose side have already suffered a couple of cancellations, is worried that this latest incident will be detrimental to his players.

He said: "It's very frustrating because we are behind in the league in terms of games played but this cup takes precedent.

"I am sure we would have finished the job off in the second half but it can't be helped and we have to make sure we get the right result next week."

Hutchinson utilised the opportunity to rest several first team regulars and run the rule over promising youngsters Harry Fleet and Chris Herbst. Herbst deputised for the injured Simon Radcliffe - who is to undergo a scan on what is now suspected to be a hernia problem - and impressed in his senior debut.

Fleet enjoyed freedom in midfield although it was veteran Mark Kenway who produced the most commanding performance in his first competitive start.

The former Weymouth man was powerless to prevent Cobham opening the scoring from their first meaningful attack, though, when Lee Oven ventured forward and put through Law to fire home.

Instrumental playmaker Wise pegged back the visitors with an unstoppable 25-yard effort, and moments later, Kenway navigated his way down the right flank before supplying a pinpoint cross for Clarke to nod across the keeper.

Hutchinson's attentions have now turned towards the visit of Shepton Mallet tomorrow with the Bees' boss targeting another home victory.

Tomorrow's opponents have suffered a forgettable start to their campaign winning just two matches from eight, but it is their negative goal difference - better only than marooned Elmore - that will worry them most.

n Reserve team boss Mike Savage has wielded the axe and is putting faith in youngsters after Bridport Reserves endured their second successive Dorset Premier League trouncing at Portland United.

Savage has discarded a couple of senior players for the time being, instead hoping youngsters such as Chris Herbst and Jamie McClem-ents will inject pace and agility into an under-fire back line.

The Reserves have conceded 14 goals in their two most recent matches.

The Bees are in desperate need of a morale-boosting performance and result this weekend when they visit mid-table Blandford United (3pm).
