WEYMOUTH duo Dave Picton and Calvin Drage will take part in the final of the Golf Classic at Celtic Manor in Wales tomorrow looking to improve on last year's fourth-placed finish.

The event, which is regarded as the construction industry's most prestigious golf competition, will take place on the new 2010 course, the first to be designed specifically to stage the Ryder Cup.

Following six rounds of intense competition between 600 teams, Picton and Drage are among 17 pairs who have won through to the final.

One additional team, consisting of Richard Davies and Anthony Atkinson, has also qualified courtesy of Davies' fantastic hole-in-one, which he made in the very first round.

The final will be played on an 18-hole four-ball better-ball basis and in addition to prizes for the winners and runners-up there will also be awards for nearest the pin and the longest drive.

The day will be rounded off with a gala dinner and presentation in the Beaumaris Suite within the main Resort Hotel.

Picton said: "Calvin has been buzzing so far this year. He has won loads of competitions and he is in the order of merit at Weymouth so I will leave all the flamboyant stuff to him.

"I have been playing steady and will hold my own, and hopefully we can improve on last year's performance at the Belfry when we finished fourth."

Commenting on the 2010 course, Picton added: "To think we are going to have the opportunity to play on the same course that will hold the Ryder Cup in 2010 is just fantastic and we are both really looking forward to it.

"To get to the final of this competition two years on the trot is an excellent achievement and we are going to make sure we enjoy the experience."
